DEFLECTION

deflection
(diˈflɛkʃən; dɪˈflɛkʃən)
NOUN
: a deflecting or being deflected; a turning aside, bending, or deviation

Governments, politicians, their unscrupulous allies and others, will always try to overwhelm the news agenda in a way that is both manipulative and distracting. This is clearly a misdirection maneuver and a tactful technique to persuade the bulk of the audience. The increasing tendency to try to refocus attention is a calculated effort to deflect from the more important issue or issues at hand. We need to be careful not to react, or overreact, in these circumstances. Sometimes simply staying quiet can be the best option.
